Luminus is a leading energy supplier that has placed sustainability at the heart of its strategy and services for many years. With a clear ambition to actively contribute to Belgium’s energy transition and carbon neutrality, the company faced the challenge of translating its numerous existing initiatives – from wind energy to solar energy and energy audits – into a single coherent, scalable and forward-looking sustainability narrative.
In the highly competitive energy market, Luminus was, after all, facing a dual challenge. On the one hand, consumers were increasingly switching to the cheapest provider, making price the dominant deciding factor. On the other hand, social pressure was mounting to make visible, measurable and reliable sustainable choices.
At the same time, complex licensing procedures, stricter policies and high expectations regarding CO₂ neutrality meant that large-scale sustainable projects were becoming increasingly difficult to realise. Luminus needed a clearer point of differentiation and a specialist partner who could translate their sustainability strategy into concrete, achievable and profitable projects.
A single integrated approach for wind, solar and strategic sustainability
Since 2005, Encon has been supporting Luminus with a fully end-to-end support programme that offers both strategic focus and technical depth.
We first mapped out their existing potential and project opportunities through comprehensive scans, environmental analyses and feasibility studies. We then took the complexity off their hands by organising full permit applications, risk analyses and technical follow-up.
For both wind and solar energy projects, Encon developed a streamlined approach that runs from initial concept to completion: selection of the right technology, tendering, quality control and performance monitoring. Thanks to this consistent, expert support, Luminus was able to implement its sustainable strategy in a concrete, efficient and scalable manner.
National pioneer in renewable energy
The collaboration has transformed Luminus into one of the most visible and influential players in Belgium’s energy transition. Today, 212 wind turbines have been commissioned thanks to this approach, representing 516 MW of installed capacity and enough to supply more than 283,400 households with green electricity annually.
In addition, dozens of large-scale PV projects have been successfully developed, each with optimal returns and guaranteed quality monitoring. These results not only strengthen the Luminus brand, but also make their sustainable strategy measurable, credible and future-proof.

‘With these solid foundations, Luminus, together with Encon, remains a key partner in achieving Belgium’s target of 100% renewable energy by 2050.’
