ISO 50 0001

ISO 50.001 for better energy management

From 2027, companies with high energy consumption must have an ISO 50001-certified energy management system in place. This requirement calls for preparation and structure, but at the same time presents a clear opportunity.

With ISO 50001 certification, you gain control over your energy consumption, work specifically towards improving efficiency and lay the foundations for sustainable cost optimisation.

Encon guides you step by step, ensuring that you not only comply with the regulations but also derive maximum value from your energy management.

Who does ISO 50001 apply to?

The requirement applies to organisations with an average energy consumption of more than 85 TJ over the past three years. In practice, this amounts to a combination of electricity and natural gas consumption.

The deadline is set for 11 October 2027. Please allow for a preparation period of approximately one year to ensure everything is implemented correctly.

What is ISO 50001 certification?

ISO 50001 is an internationally recognised energy management system that ensures your energy performance is systematically monitored and improved.

The system provides a structured approach to how you:

  • identifies energy consumption
  • monitors and manages energy performance
  • implements improvement measures
  • integrates energy management across all departments of your organisation

The aim is clear: to reduce energy consumption and cut costs, whilst complying with legislation.

What are the benefits of ISO 50001?

A well-implemented energy management system delivers tangible results.

  • You reduce energy costs through targeted optimisations.
  • You improve the efficiency of installations and processes.
  • You make energy performance measurable and manageable.
  • You demonstrate your commitment to sustainability.
  • You comply with legal obligations through a structured approach.

In addition, you embed energy management within your organisation, ensuring that improvements are sustainable and not dependent on one-off initiatives.

Our approach: clear and practical

Implementing ISO 50001 requires more than just documentation. It requires insight, structure and commitment within your organisation. That is why Encon takes a phased approach.

  1. GAP analysis

We begin with a thorough analysis of your current situation. As part of this, we examine processes, energy consumption and existing systems. We assess your organisation based on the ISO 50001 framework (Plan-Do-Check-Act) and clearly identify:

    • which elements are already in place
    • where there are still gaps
    • what efforts are required

This will give you a realistic picture of your certification potential and the effort involved.

  1. Action plan

Based on the analysis, we draw up a concrete step-by-step plan. This gives you an insight into the timeline, priorities and necessary actions.

You can then get started on your own, or opt for further support.

  1. Implementation and support

Would you like to benefit from maximum security? If so, we will support you every step of the way as you implement your energy management system.

In particular, we will guide you through the following steps:

  • workshops and internal coordination
  • development of procedures and documentation
  • energy audits and monitoring
  • definition of key performance indicators (EnPI)
  • preparation for the audit

This will give you the assurance that all the requirements have been properly met and that your organisation is ready for certification.
