VLAIO Greening Scan: sustainable business practices through well-founded investments
More and more companies are looking to make their energy consumption more sustainable. But which technologies are truly worth considering today? And how can you ensure that an investment is not only environmentally sound but also economically viable?
VLAIO’s sustainability scan helps companies answer these questions with a well-founded analysis.

What is the Greening Scan?
The Greening Scan is a VLAIO grant scheme that helps businesses explore sustainable investments.
During the scan, we assess how fossil fuels can be replaced by more sustainable alternatives, taking into account both technical feasibility and financial impact.
This gives companies a clear picture of:
- possible technologies for their specific situation
- the impact on energy consumption and CO₂ emissions
- the investment cost and payback period
- relevant subsidies and support measures
Focus on electrification and sustainable heating
The scan focuses primarily on greening heating and energy supply. Typical applications examined include:
- heat pumps
- electrification of industrial processes
- residual heat recovery
- solar thermal
- district heating networks
- geothermal energy
- thermal storage and (in certain cases) hydrogen
These technologies play a key role in the transition to a low-carbon industry.
Who is the scan intended for?
The greening scan is aimed at companies with a branch in Flanders that wish to make their energy consumption more sustainable. Both SMEs and larger enterprises are eligible.
The scan is particularly relevant for organisations that:
- are facing a major investment decision
- wish to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels
- wish to structurally reduce their energy costs
Financial support via VLAIO
An important aspect of the greening scan is the financial support provided by VLAIO.
Companies can count on a grant that covers a large part of the study costs, thereby significantly lowering the threshold for having a thorough analysis carried out.
In concrete terms, this means:
- Total price per scan: €12,490 excl. VAT
- Contribution via VLAIO: €10,000 excl. VAT
- Entrepreneur’s own contribution: €2,490 excl. VAT
The exact scope of the scan may vary depending on its complexity and scope, but this fixed pricing structure ensures clarity and predictability.
From analysis to investment decision
The result of a greening scan is not a theoretical study, but a practical guide for further steps.
The insights from the scan help companies to:
- objectively compare different technologies
- calculate investment scenarios
- better assess risks
- make informed decisions
In many cases, the scan forms the basis for concrete implementation processes.
The role of a certified service provider
The greening scan is carried out by certified service providers. They combine technical expertise with economic analysis to arrive at realistic and actionable advice.
At Encon, the focus is on translating complex energy issues into practical and financially sound solutions, tailored to the specific context of the business.
