The client’s sustainability requirements

Brussels Airport Company (BAC) acted as the client and imposed clear ESG requirements for the development of the building. For Willy Naessens Group, as the contractor, this meant that the project not only had to be technically and structurally sound, but also had to meet strict sustainability criteria. For Willy Naessens Group, this presented a familiar challenge: how does a contractor properly respond to the client’s external ESG requirements without getting lost in complex standards, extra administration or unnecessary costs? At the same time, the investment also had to continue to create value for the property itself in the longer term.

Targeted use of BREEAM

Willy Naessens Group called on Encon to translate Brussels Airport Company’s ESG requirements into a concrete and achievable plan. The imposed criteria were converted into a clear and actionable sustainability strategy, with BREEAM certification as a guiding principle. By integrating sustainability into the entire construction process right from the design phase, a structured approach was created that enabled efficient collaboration between all parties involved. Encon provided support both in translating ESG requirements into practical measures and in guiding the BREEAM process and monitoring the sustainability objectives throughout the project.

Faster time to market thanks to ESG

Thanks to this integrated approach, the building met Brussels Airport Company’s ESG requirements from the design phase onwards. This ensured that the project became attractive to potential tenants more quickly and could be marketed more smoothly. ESG thus became not merely a requirement, but a lever that contributed to a faster market launch and a higher property value.
