Clabots is an industrial company where efficiency, employee comfort and cost control are central to day-to-day operations. Following a previous successful collaboration, Clabots once again turned to Encon, its long-term sustainability and energy partner.
The company faced a combination of urgent and strategic challenges. The existing fluorescent lighting at its Court-Saint-Étienne site was outdated, energy-intensive and needed to be phased out in the short term to remain compliant with regulations. At the same time, lighting quality no longer met employees’ expectations, particularly in production and warehouse areas where good visibility is essential.
In addition, Clabots wanted to structurally reduce energy costs and take swift, visible steps towards more sustainable business operations. The challenge was not only technical but also operational: the relighting project had to be completed during working hours without disrupting daily activities. This required a flexible approach, close coordination and a solution that made sense both economically and practically.
A flexible LED relighting solution tailored to usage and efficiency
Encon began with a thorough analysis of the existing installation and the actual use of the various spaces. Rather than implementing a one-size-fits-all solution, Encon developed several scenarios and presented them to Clabots. Based on this assessment, Clabots selected a targeted, cost-effective LED solution for each zone, as the option best suited to its needs.
The new installation combines energy-efficient LED luminaires with presence detection and daylight controls in the warehouse areas. This ensures that lighting is used only when and where it is needed, without compromising safety or comfort. The solution was designed in accordance with current lighting standards and tailored to the operational reality of the site.
All work was carried out during normal working hours and in close consultation with Clabots’ teams. Thanks to flexible planning and clear communication, Encon completed the relighting project without interrupting production or daily operations. Encon took care of the entire project, from technical decision-making to on-site coordination.
Structural savings, improved comfort and an attractive payback period
The switch from fluorescent lighting to LED technology reduced lighting-related energy consumption by more than 50%, resulting in annual energy cost savings of approximately €8,400. Maintenance costs were also virtually eliminated thanks to the long lifespan of the LED luminaires.
In addition, CO₂ emissions were reduced by approximately 12 tonnes per year, helping Clabots achieve its sustainability objectives in a concrete and measurable way. Financially, this translates into a payback period of around 7.5 years and an attractive internal rate of return.
Equally important is the impact on the workplace. Employees now benefit from a brighter, more comfortable working environment that fully complies with current regulations.
